Abstract
The genetic algorithm is presented as a straightforward computerized search method capable of solving problems from a wide variety of problem domains. A brief overview of the mechanics of the algorithm is presented, and the results of its application to function optimization, and the determination of ground state energies of the spin glass and related models are shown.
