Abstract

This special edition of the Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics is issued to mark the eightieth birthday of Norrie Everitt. It is fitting that some of Norrie's many friends have contributed papers to the volume and special thanks must go to each and everyone. Thanks are also due to Luc Wuytack for his prompt attention to any question that we have raised and to Mrs Margret Evans of the School of Computer Science at Cardiff for providing the secretarial help to manage this project.
