Abstract

NOLLAIG FROST (ed.), Qualitative Research Methods in Psychology. Maidenhead: Open University Press, 2011. v + 223 pp. ISBN 9780335241507 (hbk) £66.50; ISBN 9780335241514 (pbk) £23.75 PETER BANISTER, GEOFF BUNN, ERICA BURMAN, JOHN DANIELS, PAUL DUKETT, DAN GOODLEY, REBECCA LAWTHOM, IAN PARKER, KATHERINE RUNSWICKE-COLE, JUDITH SIXSMITH, SOPHIE SMAILES, CAROL TINDALL and PAULINE WHELAN, Qualitative Methods in Psychology: A Research Guide, 2nd ed. Maidenhead: Open University Press, 2011. v + 233 pp. ISBN 9780335243051 (pbk) £26.99 When I was invited to conduct a comparative review of two contemporary research guides, I was excited at the prospect. Having a keen interest in multimodal forms of data collection and creative presentation (Mannay, 2010, 2011), I was curious to explore the signposting set out, for psychology students and practitioners, in relation to research design, data collection and analysis. I was eager to read the books and gain some new insights into the application of psychological research methods, both in terms of my undergraduate teaching and my own practice.
