Abstract

Our MSc Physics programme incorporates a dedicated teaching environment and bespoke core modules implementing research group organisation and ethos to enhance students' sense of community. LabVIEW provides the common language and shared new experience during the first semester; students take ownership of LabVIEW-based projects run parallel to developing LabVIEW coding skills. Student feedback for the past two years has been overwhelmingly positive. Students consistently cite the community spirit, dedicated space and LabVIEW as the central positive experiences of their learning. Community-building benefits have not been at the cost of the effective acquisition of skills as shown in overall module scores, PTES survey feedback and module questionnaire results.
