Abstract
This article details the collaboration between Ryan Prout (Cardiff University School of Modern Languages) and the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. It refers to the co-produced events showcasing the Spanish graphic novel and Spanish comic artists at LICAF 2016. In the interview section Paco Roca discusses his formation as a graphic novelist, the development of the genre in Spain since the introduction of the Premio Nacional del Cómic in 2007, and the themes that run through his work, primarily memory, reassessment of Spanish history, social engagement, and autobiographical self-discovery. Particular attention is given to Arrugas, Los surcos del azar, and La Casa.
