Abstract

In this paper, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were conducted to analyze the design parameters found in the literature review that influence on the performance of an opaque ventilated façade (OVF) to provide a baseline prototype for future parametric optimisation of novel OVFs. The baseline prototype iscreated by combining the most common OVF’s geometrical solutions discovered in the literature and applied in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which is an extremely hot and arid region. The CFD simulation results indicate that airflow velocity within the OVF’s cavity has the most significant effect on its thermal performance in hot arid climate areas.
