Abstract
The nature of rectifier station operation can introduce harmonics into electrical systems. Understanding the impact of these harmonics on the insulation properties of gases in gas-insulated systems, particularly regarding partial discharge generation and inception voltages in the assessment SF6 alternatives. This study examined the behaviour of partial discharges under conditions of DC ripple compared to filtered DC voltage, evaluating their dielectric effectiveness in DC electrical systems susceptible to abnormal harmonic contents. By analysing the results, this research explored the performance of three alternative gases to SF6 under the effects of ripple content. Conducted through systematic comparison, the outcomes of this research could aid in understanding the behavior of partial discharges under direct current conditions. It might be beneficial for system operators further evaluating the impact of these conditions to choose the SF6 alternatives more carefully.
