Envisioning the future of 3D printing: a vignette-based approach. Presented at: EurOMA 2017: 24th Annual Conference, Edinburgh, 1 - 5 July 2017. |
Abstract
3D printing presents many new options for the production of consumer goods, opening up the possibilities for customizing goods, and is forecast to impact a number of industries. Many studies exist for 3D printing, however these are largely technical in nature, whereas this paper examines the customer perspective through vignette development. Vignettes are developed considering engineer-to-order methods (Gosling et al., 2017), and generic scenarios for 3D printing (Ryan et al., 2016), focussing on the model making and craft industry. These vignettes will be used to produce a vignette based survey for determining customer demand and expectations.
