Abstract
The geometrical properties of folded lineations are considered for various folding mechanisms. Folded lineations are treated as structures representing finite strain so that their intensity and orientation depend on the initial strain represented by the unfolded lineation as well as on the superimposed fold strains. It is believed that the theory could be valid geologically for some fabric lineations, and the derived loci may account for the frequently reported deviations from the established theoretical patterns. The treatment is essentially a geometrical one, so that the results depend only on the configuration of the strains within the fold, regardless of the dynamic processes by which folding developed.
