Abstract
The article explores the first four years of the Welsh Liberal Party, 1966-1970. It focuses on Emlyn Hooson's role in the formation of the party, the animosity towards the formation and it offers a comparison with Plaid Cymru in the same period. Hooson's attitude to a political pact with Labour and Plaid Cymru in this period is also explored.
