The safety of device registries for endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair: Systematic review and meta-regression. European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery 55 (2) , pp. 177-183. 10.1016/j.ejvs.2017.11.013 |
Abstract
The authors identified 147 moderate quality papers involving 27,058 patients who underwent elective endovascular aortic aneurysm repairs (EVARs) for infrarenal AAAs. Meta-regression was performed to pool data and calculate the patient numbers needed to detect noninferiority of future graft performance (inferior = lowest 25%). The median patient number enrolled in company-sponsored registries was significantly larger (236) than noncompany sponsored registries (100; P = .001). There were differences in pooled endoleak rates between different stent graft types. At 2 years, the estimated overall endoleak rate (excluding type II) was 5.7 ± 0.6% and the pooled reintervention rate was 11.1 ± 0.7%. The number of patients who would need to be enrolled in a registry to demonstrate noninferiority for cumulative endoleak rate (excluding type II) was 525 patients and for reintervention rate was 492 patients.
