Abstract
On 22 January 2019, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe agreed the text of Resolution 2253: Sharia, the Cairo Declaration and the European Convention on Human Rights. This expresses concern about ‘the “judicial” activities of “Sharia Councils” in the United Kingdom. This article explores whether these concerns correctly identify the problem and whether the proposals mandated in the Resolution are sound.
