Abstract
In the opening plenary for the 2019 Hospice UK Conference, Dr Mark Taubert outlines his work to encourage and promote conversations about palliative care, serious illness and advance care planning. He gives a detailed account of how he has worked with both journalistic and new media. An honest reflection on pitfalls, opportunities and miscommunications will form part of this plenary talk, and how controversial topics should not be avoided. He will detail some of his work at national level to improve advance and future care planning in Wales. He concludes his talk with some tips on what to do when journalists and television crews come to the workplace.
