Abstract
Fibre-network materials have been of great interest to engineers and scientists due to their attractive mechanical and physical properties and their wide applications. However, very limited research has been conducted, especially on simulation and analytical models to delineate the structure-mechanics relationships of three-dimensional stochastic fibre networks. The connectivity and relative density are two main factors that strongly affect the stiffness and strength of the fibre-network materials. In this chapter, we provided an overview of the elasto-plastic behaviour of three-dimensional stochastic fibre networks using micromechanics models. Besides the simulation results, dimensional analyses were performed to obtain the in-plane and out-of-plane yield strengths of the fibre-network materials as closed-form functions of the relative density.
