Abstract
Global attention to hydrogen has been increasing recently as a key solution to achieve net-zero emissions. Producing on-site green hydrogen at a small scale using renewable energy is challenging for its high cost. This paper introduces a techno-economic assessment of different sizes of grid-connected hybrid renewable energy systems to meet airport electrical load. The proposed hybrid renewable energy system includes solar photovoltaic (PV) and hydrogen fuel cells. Hydrogen is produced and stored on-site. Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER pro) software is used to obtain the optimal size of the grid-tied hybrid system. The simulation results show that 50kW of fuel cells and 1.15MW of solar PV is the most cost-effective configuration to supply airport electrical load.
