Abstract
Rising electricity costs present significant challenges to the secondary steelmaking industry. Exploiting local renewable energy sources (RES) offers a promising approach to reducing grid-related electricity costs. However, the poor time granularity of the batch production mode inherent in secondary steelmaking hinders efficient renewable energy utilisation and the capability of responding to fluctuations in electricity prices. This paper presents a coordinated demand response (DR) strategy for secondary steelmaking, integrating energy storage systems (ESS) to address the time granularity issue. By leveraging ESS, the presented strategy effectively bridges the gap among the time scales of electricity prices, RES generation forecasts, and secondary steelmaking batch production, thereby reducing electricity costs and improving renewable energy utilisation.
