Abstract
The addition of E–H moieties to unsaturated bonds is an atom efficient way to synthesize heteroatom-containing molecules has dramatically increased in use. The majority of literature has focused on the addition of E–H moieties to alkene and alkyne substrates, with significantly less attention placed on the use of heteroatom-rich C = X bonds (X = O, S, N), and, in particular, the heterocumulenes (X = C = Y, X = O, S, NR and Y = NR) for this purpose. Herein, we will describe catalyzed and catalyst-free examples of the hydroboration (H–B(R)2), hydroamination (H–NR2), hydroalkoxylation (H–OR), hydrophosphination (H–PR2), hydrophosphinylation (H–P(O)R2), hydrophosphonylation (H–P(O)(OR)2), hydrothiolation (H–SR) and hydrosilylation (H–SiR3) of carbodiimides, isocyanates and isothiocyanates.
