Abstract
This workshop invites you to explore the potential of objects for creating ethical research encounters with children and young people. It presents findings from an ESRC funded project that engaged with participants diagnosed with a variety of Specific Learning Differences (SpLD). Mapping an approach to curating ethical encounters with disabled young people in Welsh special schools, I will introduce The Case of Ethics. Created specifically for the project, the case carried a range of ethical objects, each aiming to generate meaningful ongoing conversations around informed consent in creative and participatory research. These objects were selected to thematically represent ideas and concepts so familiar to us, that they might sometimes be assumed self-evident. As well as interacting with the case, you will have the opportunity to craft your own real or digital case and think about the objects that you would include and why. This workshop aims to generate conversations around the central importance of ethical research relationships through a consideration of creative strategies that might help us to foster them from the very earliest stages of our projects.
