Abstract
In this chapter, I argue that if ethics is uncodifiable (as many supporters of virtue ethics claim), then we should expect virtues to be the product of mindshaping activities. I first offer a brief introduction to the nature of virtues and outline various proposals about the methods involved in their acquisition. Second, I show that these methods are instances of mindshaping practices. Before explaining why, this is to be expected if there are no general rules for the determination of right action.
