Abstract
Currently clients from diverse ethnicities and nationalities face challenges in accessing and benefitting from psychological therapy when comparing to White British clients. These trends are compounded for clients with limited English proficiency. The scale and impact of this problem is significant within Talking Therapies; however, there has been no specific research on this. Therefore, my research team and I wanted to look into current staff's perspectives and experiences of barriers in interpreter-mediated therapy within NHS Talking Therapies. Through reflexive thematic analysis (RTA), we identified four key themes: Individual level, service level, organisational level and overlapping barriers. The study highlights that while the barriers are distinct across individual, service, and organisational levels, they are also interdependent and often overlap. The findings suggest that working on these barriers requires a comprehensive approach, considering the interrelated nature of these issues.
