Abstract

Summary Statement In light of the growing popularity of ‘troubles tourism’ in Northern Ireland, this paper prompts important discussions into the emotions embodied and performed by the three main tourism stakeholders (tourists, residents and tourism industry representatives) in a region which remains socio-politically troubled, despite the 1998 Belfast Agreement. By focusing specifically on discomfort, this paper illustrates a novel insight into how ‘negative’ emotions can provide a valuable contribution to place marketing.
