Abstract
This paper presents a method for researching the relationship between heritage spaces, emotion, and visitors. It makes a case for mixed-methods research in the field, and through the use of a case study, stresses the value of qualitative data in combination with digital tools. The paper discusses the implications of using digital technologies that can record, visualise and share some of our most personal and intimate data in heritage and cultural sector. As technologies proliferate, how should they be used, critiqued and deconstructed before being used to understand and interpret experiences of heritage and cultural spaces? How can one approach the analysis and interpretation of such data? These questions are addressed through the presentation of a research design recently developed with The National Trust, UK.
