Abstract
Influenced by relational approaches across the social sciences, literary geography is just one subject that over recent years has sought to reconfigure its focus of interest. Literary geographers now no longer simply examine isolated objects of study (for example, a literary text in novel, poem, or play form), but seek to explore sets of relations (for example, a read-book, or a literary-place). This chapter explores one way in which this reconfiguration of interest can be conceptualised by discussing the notion of the literary assemblage. The chapter explains assemblage theory and outlines its potential for literary geographies. It then briefly applies one iteration of this approach, before offering five key questions in way of conclusion which can help to locate ourselves and our future inquiries with respect to this literary geography of associations.
