Abstract

Systemic Functional Grammar aims to present readers with a synopsis of the key concepts related to the study of grammar within the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), a theory developed by M.A.K Halliday. The article concentrates on (i) describing choice as mapped out by systems networks and (ii) presenting the three metafunctions of language (ideational, interpersonal and textual) and their relation to lexicogrammar, focusing on the description of the clause. The article concludes with suggestions for further reading.
