Abstract

This chapter aims to provide a panoramic view of global environmental criminal law research, before a presentation of the scope, objectives and overview of the chapters in the Research Agenda for Environmental Crime and the Law. This includes a discussion of the history, approaches for and directions of environmental criminal law research, as well as the geographical distribution of environmental crime research in both Global North and Global South research institutions. The chapter also discusses the role of international organisations, such as INTERPOL and UNODC, in advancing global environmental criminal law research.
