Abstract

The urbanization process, which is the result of an economic and demographic picture, has brought about a global concern about environmental justice (Zhu et al., 2019) in recent years, particularly by causing significant changes in cities (Wilker et al., 2016). Various urban greening projects implemented as a result of a top-down design, on the other hand, ignore the minority citizens living in these regions and cannot keep up with the changing profiles of the cities. This situation causes socio-economic inequalities in cities to increase. The aim of the work is to put the concept of justice at the center of green space design and to examine the heterogeneous needs of urban residents with inclusive design models. Increasing complexity will be contextually tackled, and how inclusive design overcomes these problems and contributes to urban development will be comprehensively examined. In this way, the methodology to be followed will include a qualitative analysis of the original database data. The secondary literature will be extensively studied through empirical studies in different geographies. Thus, by comparing different case studies, the outputs about inclusive design can inspire future projects. Accordingly, with the findings to be obtained, the importance of how inclusive design works in different contexts will be better understood. By bringing the needs of minority communities to the agenda, the consequences of design decisions on these citizens can thus be determined. Furthermore, the roles of local power potentials in the design process and how they interact with each other will be seen. Thus, some data will be provided on how the inclusive design process approaches the ideal and different ways of promoting environmental justice will be explored. The paper will contribute to the development of the relationship between managers, service providers and service users and it will do this by trying to balance the bottom-up and top-down design with each other.
