Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has underlined the importance of urban green spaces, nature, connected communities and resilient food supply chains. Focusing on the UK, this chapter provides a narrative review of how urban food growing has responded to past crises before moving on to provide a detailed account of urban food growing during the COVID-19 pandemic. We discuss the positive impacts that urban food growing had on individual, household and community resilience, well-being, environment and local food systems during the pandemic and suggest that further recognition of and support for urban food growing would ensure that it is better able to respond to future crises.
