Abstract
Judo offers an optimal environment for holistic youth development through its integration of physical, philosophical, and socio-moral components. This study investigates the transition process from school-based to federated judo in Argentina, examining its role within educational institutions and the existence of links between schools and sports clubs. Similarities and differences with respect to other countries were highlighted. Structured interviews with judo instructors revealed key challenges: lack of integration of judo in schools, insufficient institutional collaboration, and scarcity of financing policies. Additional deficiencies include inadequate pedagogical training among instructors and excessive pressure on young athletes, contributing to transition difficulties and early dropout. Although in other countries there are structured programs that facilitate this transition, the sport development in Argentina is largely dependent on private institutions and family incentives. Implementation of articulated educational and sport policies would be crucial to optimize the development of judo players towards high performance and prevent dropout.
