Abstract
This study explores the antecedents of guests’ trust in peer-to-peer accommodation platforms by employing a melding perspective of socio-technical theory and resource-matching theory. The samples were collected from 306 respondents via an online survey in China. The results indicate that perceived social and cultural impacts, perceived usefulness, perceived ease-of-use, and perceived risk significantly influence guest trust. Moreover, personality traits (i.e. novelty and augmentation) are key boundary conditions for the effects of social-technical antecedents. This study enriches the understanding of consumers’ platform trust as well as provides valuable insights for platform managers to develop targeted marketing strategies.
