Abstract

Steel ship plates long-term submerged in halogen-rich electrolyte solutions experience progressive breakdown of their surface coating systems. This leads to severe corrosion in the steel, posing a significant threat to the operational safety of ship hull structures. To accurately assess the compressive bearing capacity degradation of stiffened ship plates after seawater immersion corrosion, this study established a refined finite element model incorporating the time-dependent effects of coating breakdown. Based on this model, the influence of four key parameters—plate slenderness ratio, stiffener slenderness ratio, corrosion duration, and seawater temperature—on the compressive bearing capacity degradation rate of the plates was systematically investigated. The results indicate that the compressive performance of stiffened ship plates is influenced by the plate-stiffener relationship. Furthermore, both corrosion duration and seawater temperature significantly affect the compressive bearing capacity degradation rate, exhibiting exponential growth and linear increasing trends with their increase, respectively. Finally, a calculation formula for assessing the compressive bearing capacity degradation rate of stiffened ship plates, considering the above four parameters, was established. This provides methodological support for residual strength assessment and life prediction of stiffened ship plates and offers technical reference to study the mechanical properties of steel structures after corrosion in seawater immersion environments.
