Abstract

Archaeologist, Dr Erin Lloyd Jones, highlights the 1500th anniversary of Bangor Cathedral, one of the oldest cathedrals in the UK. Founded by Saint Deiniol, Bangor Cathedral has served as a significant religious site since the sixth century, surviving fires, crusades, and even Viking raids. It's also the resting place of at least two native Welsh princes, Owain Gwynedd and his brother Cadwaladr. In this programme, Erin examines Bangor Cathedral’s rich yet turbulent past, uncovers some of the building's architectural secrets, and ponders the role of faith in shaping the region's identity. Plus, the clergy consider what the future holds for the cathedral. Joining Erin is Architectural Historian, Dr Peter Lindfield; Author and Medieval Historian, Dr Shaun McGuinness; the Reverend Canon, Tracy Jones; the Assistant Bishop of Bangor, the Right Reverend David Morris; and the recently appointed Dean of Bangor, Reverend Dr Manon Ceridwen James.
