Abstract

This chapter will examine the role of the Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) in promoting positive outcomes for children and families. It will provide an in-depth examination of the FDAC’s approach as an innovative, problem-solving court model that aims to improve outcomes for children and families affected by parental substance misuse. The chapter will begin by providing an overview of the FDAC model, including its key principles, components and goals. It will then explore the evidence base regarding the effectiveness of this approach, drawing on research studies and evaluations. The chapter will also examine the practical implications of the FDAC approach for child and family social work practice, including the importance of multi-agency working and the use of evidence-based interventions. Overall, this chapter will provide a practical resource for improving practice, supporting families and promoting a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to child and family social work.
