Abstract
This rapid scoping review aims to identify the outcomes and outcome measures used to evaluate physical, psychological, social, and substance-related harm reduction early intervention approaches linked to primary care for UK military veterans. The purpose of the review is to inform outcome selection for a subsequent feasibility and acceptability study that will co-produce and test an integrated health and wellbeing early intervention within UK primary care. This intervention will be the first of its kind in the UK veteran sector, designed to promote wellbeing and prevent health and social crisis. The review will follow the JBI scoping review methodology and apply rapid review methods to allow completion within three months. Preliminary searches found no existing systematic reviews that address the research question, although related literature on health status measurement among veterans helped inform the search strategy. The review will include quantitative studies published in English from 2015 onwards that report outcomes and outcome measures for harm reduction early intervention approaches delivered within or linked to UK primary care. Eligible studies must focus on UK veterans and include at least one harm-reduction domain: physical, psychological, social, or substance-related. Interventions must involve primary care delivery or referral pathways such as general practice, primary care networks, social prescribing, or integrated or co-located services. Searches will be conducted across Medline, Embase, PsycINFO and CINAHL. One reviewer will screen all titles, abstracts, and full texts, with a second reviewer checking a proportion of decisions and resolving uncertainties. Extracted data will include veteran demographics, intervention characteristics, harm-reduction domains, reported outcomes, and outcome measures.
