Abstract

The sex pheromone of Lutzomyia longipalpis (Lapinha), comprising the unusual homosesquiterpene, 9-methylgermacrene B, can be prepared by methylation and deoxygenation of germacrone, the major constituent of Zdravets oil, the essential oil of the renewable resource Geranium macrorrhizum.
