Abstract
Within the European Union, medical-specialist training curricula significantly differ between member countries, with efforts being made toward harmonization. Currently 34 medical specialties organize regular board examinations (European Board Examinations) accredited by the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). Although not legally binding, accreditation remains a national competence; an increasing number of countries accept these examinations as part of their national accreditation requirements. Recently the European Psychiatric Association (EPA), the UEMS Section of Psychiatry, and the European Federation of Psychiatric Trainees (EFPT) decided to prepare and implement a European Board Examination in Psychiatry (EBEP).1 We present the results of the first edition of the EBEP.
