Abstract

Forms of urban informality have become integral to the ways in which urban environments across diverse contexts are shaped and experienced, particularly within what is commonly referred to as the Global South. This presentation draws on research at the intersections of informal urbanism, urban design, comparative urbanism, urban morphology, and public space. It addresses the challenge of understanding the complex dynamics of informal urbanism in relation to architecture and urban design and explores how forms of informality work within a global context. The presentation also reflects on recent and forthcoming book projects related to these themes.
