Abstract

This report examines the everyday politics of 13 girls and their caregivers from the Kamuli district of Uganda through evidence gathered from the Real Choices, Real Lives study. Real Choices, Real Lives is a longitudinal and qualitative research study of Plan International that has followed the lives of 142 girls in 9 countries around the world since their birth in 2006 until they turned 18 in 2024. Annual in-depth interviews were conducted with girls and their caregivers to explore their daily realities, attitudes, and aspirations for the future. Centering the lived experiences and voices of girls, this research explores how girls, from childhood to adolescence, do or do not resist gender inequalities in their daily lives, as well as any corresponding change in attitudes among their caregivers.
