Abstract

This paper explores the relevance of discourse analysis for the study of the Scaling of spaces and timescapes of Biosecurity in a developing country’s food animal chain. Based on recent comprehensive doctoral fieldwork in Southern India, the paper analyses the micro-discourses of agro-ecological practices of stakeholders in one Indian animal production sector. It positions them in particular, into environmental discourses according to stakeholders’ perceived time and space frameworks of control of diseases and immunity fostering. A particular interest is given to how stakeholders’ positioning of agency through discourse can better inform formal and informal processes of 'scaling' as a form of regulation of disease control and immunity.
