Abstract
This new house has the characteristically unadorned Welsh name 'Llethr' which translates to English as 'slope'. The south-facing slope into which the house is cut, 800 feet above sea level, lies at the end of a remote lane above Newbridge-on-Wye surveying the mountains of Mynedd Epynt and the Brecon Beacons. The building's steel frame is expressed, its timber sub-frame clad in reconstituted slate. Principal rooms face south, addressing the landscape, and a run of service rooms are buried into the bank with a turf roof.
