Abstract
This chapter examines the potential of Alfred Gell's concept of agency for understanding certain select pieces from Archaic and Classical Greece (the Francois vase, the Euphronios krater and Myron's Diskobolos). It also suggests that the 2nd century periegete, Pausanias, was more interested in agency than in art.
