Abstract
Motivated by multiplicativeK-homology, and understanding critical phenomena in some classical statistical mechanical models, we construct actions ofGL(∞) on the operator algebras of V. Jones and Ocneanu, and analyse these in terms of embeddings ofU(1)-current algebras.
