Abstract

This dissertation examines the role of the Practice Nurse in skin cancer prevention in adults by way of studying and examining the literature, national strategies and policies. The key areas which will be studied are education, public awareness, health promotion, early detection, and appropriate referrals to specialist professionals. This dissertation will review the related literature and explore whether the Practice Nurse can prevent the incidence of skin cancer. The dissertation consists of two main parts, incorporating subheadings. Part one is the literature review, where literature has been sought to explore whether the Practice Nurse can prevent the incidence of Skin cancer. National strategies and The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines will be reviewed, which will inform the recommendations to practice. These will be studied in part two of the dissertation. The application to nursing practice will also examine barriers and recommendations for utilisation by the Practice Nurse in clinical practice. National strategies along with NICE guidelines and policies will be reviewed, directing the role of the Practice Nurse.
