Abstract
We have observed the 12CO (J= 3-2) emission from the nucleus of the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 6946 using the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) at a resolution of 15″ (0.7 kpc). CO emission is clearly detected at the nucleus, 12″ south along the molecular bar (Ball et al. 1985), and 12″ west perpendicular to the molecular bar. The peak beam-averaged brightness temperature (Tmb) is 1.4 ± 0.5 K at the nucleus and 1.0 ± 0.4 K on average at the other two positions. Comparison with 1-0 mapping from Nobeyama using the same beamsize (Doi et al. 1988) shows that the (3-2)/(1-0) intensity ratio is 1.0 ± 0.5 on average at the three positions.
