Abstract
A simple approach to calculating natural frequencies of geometrically nonlinear cable structures is presented. The stiffness matrix for a three-dimensional straight element is provided. The justification for the use of a linearized stiffness relationship is shown. Illustrative examples show that this simple element produces results comparable to theoretical and experimental results in the literature.
