Abstract
We present a general method for calculating the Casimir force between heterostructures using an effective surface impedance approach. Within this formalism we study the effect of thin film coatings on the force. As a case study we present results for a system made of alternate layers of Mg and Ni and evaluate the effect that Pd coatings have on the Casimir force.
