Abstract
This paper presents a three-dimensional model that couples both soil mass and storage system behaviour. The proposed model is applied to consider a field application case study, with particular focus on the correct representation of the surface flux and its impact on ground energy storage. It is shown that the correct assessment of the nature of the heat transfer process occurring on the surface of the soil is important for the estimation of the amount of energy stored in the ground.
