Abstract
The essential characteristics of W49A can be attributed to a supersonic collision between two molecular clouds. The resulting shocked layer has fragmented to produce a necklace of protostellar beads, out of which have condensed the high-mass stars which excite the HII regions we see today. This model is supported by numerical simulations
