Abstract
Exploitation of the dramatic negative solvatochromism of the [Ru(bipy)(CN)4]2− moiety allows a change in solvent between MeCN and D2O to reverse the direction of photoinduced energy transfer (PEnT) in two related dyads which contain a [Ru(bipy)(CN)4]2− unit and a non-solvatochromic [Ru(bipy)3]2+ unit. Time-resolved infrared measurements provide detailed information on (i) the reversal in the direction of PEnT by changing solvent, and (ii) the different PEnT pathways arising from the presence of different molecular conformations.
