Abstract
The new Nepalese constitution—promulgated in September 2015—discriminated against the people of the Southern Terai region. It concerned mainly the Madhesis and the Tharus, two ethnic groups that were culturally closely connected with the people of neighboring India. This photo essay recounts how the devastation of these groups fueled an oil crisis, which had widespread impact across Nepal.
