Abstract
This module covers the basic genetics syllabus required for the MRCPsych. Initially we will focus on the basic concepts of how normal cells replicate their DNA, divide into daughter cells and synthesise the proteins required for their functioning. We will then look at what happens when the genetic basis for these processes is damaged and how these molecular changes lead to observable changes in an organism. This links to the traditional genetic techniques used to identify and quantify genetic changes that are associated with human disease.
